Getting Data from Your LMS, AMS, CMS, and More to Play Nicely
How do you integrate the data from your learning management system? Check out how the details behind your organization’s data use can help create a more comprehensive system.
Take a moment to list off all the platforms you currently utilize at your organization. Now consider how they’re intended to improve daily operations. How many of them seamlessly interact with one another? How often do you find yourself wishing that your systems could do more for you, whether in data management or data analysis? Here are some factors to consider when trying to create a healthy flow of information through your association’s medical LMS.
-
Typical Functionality of an LMS
Some of the more common uses of an LMS include registering users, delivering content, pre-testing, post-testing, tracking CEs, tracking certification programs, processing payments (and other e-commerce functions), broadcast emailing, and providing general recommendations. However, there are other uses that may suit your organization’s needs or specific areas of interest. These include training volunteers, continuing education for members and customers, or offering pre-testing/post-testing that goes towards certification.

AMS/CRM = A Single Source of Facts
Knowing the exact functions of your LMS, keep in mind that your AMS/CRM should be a “single source of Facts,” or a way to reach the accurate information most relevant to your learners. One way to do this would be implementing a single-sign-on solution. As the name implies, this allows users to navigate the systems through a single log-in and avoid additional roadblocks.
-
Questions for Taking Action on Your Data
For associations implementing an LMS, an important step is to identify what data should be loaded into your other systems. You’ll want to be comprehensive, but you don’t want to overload your system. This opens sub-questions, such as “how much data, in total, should be the focus?” and, “how will that data would be used?”. Most importantly, the biggest takeaway would be an actionable plan on how the analyzed data will create a new strategy for improving the backend user experiences.

Using the Data
There are plenty of ways in which to use the data taken from your analyses. One solution would be to create an open channel of communication between support staff and customers within a certification process. Another would be to create a contact flow with previous or existing customers, to alert them of updated information and available learning activities. You can then glean more data off their responses and adjust accordingly.
