To achieve initial certification, individuals must demonstrate the clinical skills, judgment, and attitudes necessary to deliver excellent patient care. Those who maintain certification demonstrate their commitment to the profession and the patients they serve daily.
The ABIM’s Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program enables physicians to keep their certification by earning MOC points every two years. Within five years, physicians must earn 100 points, in addition to passing the MOC exam within ten years of passing it previously.
Physicians have the option to earn ABIM MOC points in a variety of areas, including:
Physicians interested in staying informed and up-to-date are likely familiar with continuing medical education (CME) programs. CME programs are designed to facilitate e-learning activities and certification through streamlined platforms, also known as learning management systems.
For physicians specifically interested in maintaining certification with the American Board of Internal Medicine, it’s critical to find a CME provider who offers certification options. These options, when provided alongside a CME learning management system that is engaging and user friendly, will offer physicians a higher incentive for participation.
At EthosCE, we provide CME learning management systems that offer automated third-party accreditation and self-serve certificate options, to help physicians seamlessly earn MOC points with the American Board of Internal Medicine.
